Peggy Pigg Bush was elected to the Bedford County Trustee Office September 1, 1986. She attended high school at Shelbyville Central graduating in May 1953. She then went to work at Guy’s Supermarket in August, 1953, working in all duties in the grocery business including clerk, meat department, stocking and even owned the store for about two years. Peggy was married to George Thomas Bush for 37 years. Mr. Bush passed away in 1991 at the COAT convention in Gatlinburg, TN. They have 4 children: George Bush, Jr. Cindy Ray, Belinda Frazier and Joe Bush. Peggy and George were poultry producers for Dixie Grain and then Tyson Foods from 1958 through 2008.
The Trustee collects the county property tax, personal property tax and public utilities tax. The office also administers the Tax Relief Program for the elderly and serves as the banker for the county. All county investments are also handled through this office.
The Trustee serves three primary functions:
- To collect all county property tax and personal property tax
- To serve as the bank on the county tracking and accounting for all money received and disbursed
- To invest temporarily idle funds.
