Judicial commissioners assist the public and law enforcement agencies on a daily basis. The role of the judicial commissioner is to hear sworn testimony and determine probable cause for the issuance of state warrants and criminal summons from law enforcement agencies and citizens within Bedford County. They also issue search warrants, and criminal summons and orders of protection. Judicial commissioners conduct arraignment proceedings, set bail and any conditions of release, and assign court dates. Judicial commissioners answer questions and direct citizens to appropriate agencies for assistance.
Bedford County has four full-time and two part-time judicial commissioners, who are based at Bedford County Justice Complex, 108 North Creek Drive, Shelbyville. The phone number is 931-684-7221. The office is open to the public and proudly serves all citizens and law enforcement agencies in Bedford County.
